Kommandant der 6. Kompanie und Oberhaupt der Kuchikis, eines der vier Hochadelshäuser. Stiefbruder von Rukia Kuchiki. Als Adliger gibt er sich nach außen diszipliniert und zeigt keine Gefühle, auch wenn dies nicht mit seinem inneren Empfinden übereinstimmt.
